BAFA-funding for refrigeration systems

BAFA (Federal Office of Economics and Export Control) supports newly installed stationary air conditioning and refrigeration systems as well as heat pumps with high subsidies. The maximum funding limit is 150,000 euros per measure, a maximum of 50% of the eligible expenses. Refrigeration systems without halogenated refrigerants with a cooling capacity of at least 2 kW are funded.

Eligible refrigeration systems

  • Liquid chillers and direct evaporation systems as well as heat pumps for the use of process waste heat;
  • Refrigeration systems in food retail (LEH) including refrigerated cabinets, with plug-in refrigerated cabinets being funded up to a maximum of 10 linear meters (lfm);
  • Absorption and adsorption systems (excluding components and systems for free cooling operation);
  • Cold generators with indirect evaporative cooling or with adiabatic cooling in dry coolers;
  • Combinations of sorption and compression systems (each with separate funding applications);
  • Components and systems such as deep-freezing (LT) stages, air coolers, dry coolers, thermal storage and pipelines of cooling brine circuits;
  • Components for heat pump operation, components for using waste heat from the refrigeration system (integration of heat recovery) and components for free cooling operation;
  • Implementation planning for liquid chillers and sorption chillers;
  • Integration of regenerative energy systems.

  • R600a: Isobutane
  • R290: Propane
  • R1270: Propene
  • R717: Ammonia, NH3
  • R718: Water, H2O
  • R723: Mixture: ammonia + dimethyl ether
  • R744: Carbon dioxide, CO2
